I skied the popular southwest chute of Mt. Adams in June 2008 with Roger. We did it in a day and enjoyed the long fall line skiing right off the summit. This is a great peak. It’s a little less steep than McLoughlin but has a longer Approach. Similarly, it is easier than Shasta, but bigger than Mt. Lassen. Rent an RV and go ski them all in May! Find the Cold Springs Campground Trailhead at 5600′ and reel in the summit in a 6000′ climb to the false summit. You’ll need a permit to climb the mountain. I don’t know where you get them, my old guidebook says at Trout Lake Ranger Station. After you get the permit there, continue on forest road 8040 to Morrison Creek horse Camp and then Cold Springs if you have high clearance. There are other ski descents described in the book, but the Southwest Chute is the money run.
